Well in true GarageNight style we are always on the lookout for a bargain bike that we can potentially buy, fix up a bit and sell for a small profit to help pay for our cafe racer builds…
well, happy to say, I found our not so loved GPX250 which we picked up for the bargain price of $100!!!! Please excuse the picture quality as they were rushed using my phone…
OK, so we might have rushed into the purchase of this baby… Let me list whats wrong with it….ummm…actuaklly let me list whats not broken..
– Frame appears good
– rear wheel look good
– came with a good battery (theres $80 value right there!!!!!!)
thats about it…. If its not listed above, assume it has issues… haha
After getting it home my first priority was trying to get the thing started. First I installed the battery and checked it had charge. Second, no dash lights. After doing some back tracking I found a blown fuse tucked away NOT IN THE FUSE BOX which i replaced. Now the dash lights work but absolutely nothing when i hit the starter button.. hmmmm. Bit more checking I found the ignition module has been dismantled and wasn’t in the right position. Try again, this time the engine turns over but won’t start. I suspect the petrol tank is near empty so i pour in a few liters only to find it dripping out from a botched repair. Of well, i figure i\f it catches fire when i try start it I haven;t lost much… I hit the starter again and after several minutes it coughs and eventually fires up. It won;t rev over about 4000 rpm so Im expecting blocked main jets in the carby. My plan is to clean the carbies out and get the motor running better then offload. There’s really no value in trying to fix the massive list of broken items on this beast.. Stay tuned and find out how much profit (if any) we can make off this beast….
